Some quite interesting stuff happened to me lately regarding USENET, I thought it you'd like to hear this one: A few days ago (a day like any other), I find a great deal of USENET posts posted all over the newsgroups I usualy visit. They were flood-like had a pretty cryptic form of English in them and they were completely unrelated to the newsgroups they were posted to. The first odd thing I noticed was that it noted to be posted from diffirent people, diffirent e-mail addresses and diffirent machines (all names seemed normal tho). I looked into one of the posts and I noticed that the poor English texts were about how stupid abuse-prevention systems are and how much nerves are they going to cause to the news-server administrators (that were supposed to give up some day). I told my news-reader to display full headers and I noticed a pattern, atho most information was random from post to post, but it was all sent from Sympatico (in Canada, do you know it?). There was even a nicely provided abuse-report e-mail address. So, I looked up the most relevant newsgroup (news:comp.ai.philosophy) and replied with a notion on what was the repeating pattern and what is the abuse-report address I was about to report it all too. Later I reported it (with all the information I could get). But later that afternoon, my post was GONE from the newsgroups. Where did it go? The next day I see a guy (or bot, I'm not sure) named "Guido the Ressurector" re-posted my e-mail with an X-Comment in the header noting that "The following Usenet article was cancelled, more than likely by someone other than the original poster." Note that such canceling (not by the sender) is considered ILLEGAL, news servers do not allow it (you have to prove that you are really you before you're allowed to cancel). The story is still on, since I don't know if the flooder/hacker is 'dead' or is he/she/it still about to bother my postings. ...And 'stab' some hackers if you get a chance to. =] C'ya! -- Don't feel bad about asking/telling me anything, I will always gladly reply.
