I like to hear > about new worlds. Well sure. 'Worlds' as in the environment we interact with. Internet is said to be a world of it's own, because we interact with 'it' diffirently that we do the current human "real world". Internet is simpler to use for computer systems (as well as for people) than the real world, so this is the first step. This specific world I and Neil Nelson have been working on, is called ICI (the web page below mainly explains it's "user" side). It is built to provide an easy interface between AI programs with service-based access. The system is flexible and knows no programming language limitations (you can easily code an interface with the world in ANY programming language that let's you work with text files). The system is also built to work trough the Internet so it does not matter where the AI program is running as well as that the Internet is presented to the AI program in a way that is no harder to work with than it should be. The system's protocol is text-based and thus supports natural language (which is we found one of the few languages that allows the highest flexibility) and has a simple added set of commands that allow a simplest AI program to explore all the services present on the network in general in a given moment and know how to use them. In the making of the system, we took much attention to the security, so it is not a risk. Every running instance is under full control of the user, no access is given for granted, no program is given access to anything without the user knowing about it and access controls are very specific (per program and per remote instance). The system is object-based, where each object is a more or less standalone executable. The system's communication part is portable over Windows and Linux, whereas the other half of it is at the moment still stuck in Windows (services mostly, some can be used remotely). The system is also made to be compatible with commercial programs, it has an automated distribution protection system that will only allow one instance of a protected copy of a program to be running anywhere in the world (all download server software is already programmed). But this is purely optional, no compatibility work required for programs that are supposed to be freeware. > > I realised I have obviously forgoten most of them > > Meaning "AI routines?" As in subroutines? Algorithms? Lost me here... Well umm. AI methods. AI programs usualy. Things that take some input, process it in an AI manner and then provide output (a black box will do as long as it can talk to ICI). I don't know, pathfinders, backtracking units, object recgotnition systems, simple +/- ALife, trial and error systems, neural nets, celular automata, NLU and NL-synthesis programs, data categorizers, anything. > > and require the assistance of people off this newsgroup to > > present me with good AI ideas and perhaps work with me to incorporate > > them into the system, > > Perhaps if you explained a little more...? The ICI is a system made for AI programs/etc to work within and form a more real(istic) form of AI. It has started because of what I found on this newsgroup and it still depends on it (atho it doesn't get much lately) for further progress. There used to be quite a bunch of people here, who had these coolie little AI programs or coolie little AI ideas (that couldn't get real due to the amount of background programming they required /e.g.: the simulation of the world for the AI program was to be more complex than the program itself, very often the case/). I and Neil Nelson have worked hard to prepare what we have right now, it is a world that is both as simple as a simulation and as practical and complex as the real world. And I'm still here I am willing to work with anyone to help make his/her program to work with ICI (anything down to sharing the source code for the interface procedures /have elaborate object-based ones made in Visual Basic/). > > just to show you what the simplest AI procedure > > can actualy do given the right resources. > > Do you mean extremely difficult, not complex, but when you look > back, now see how simple it was? Hm, I suppose so (if I understand what you mean). Mainly that with this background coding all done, making a standalone AI program is a lot easier. > > It is in my great interest to continue allong anything I get. It is > > crutial. > > I think you will find a lot of good ideas here. I hope to be able to get some of them under ICI so that progress can be achieved. Most ideas how to make AI that have 'failed' are perfectly ok programs, you just need a lot of diffirent types of them working togather to make an AI that does something of a realistic AI appearance. P.S.: Please note that the ICI server (an ICI DNS, critical to the Internet logon of the ICI system) is temporarily down due to funding problems, that should be resolved soon, tho any help (for example a /legally trustworthy/ Linux server with access to cgi-bin; bandwidth use will be particulary low) would be appreciated. P.P.S.: Any other cooperation options one sees are also very welcome. Feel free to ask, even if question of spammy nature as long as it's about AI.
