Do you remember what I used to talk when I just started ICI? ICI is the platform that allows sub-categories to be connected into a whole. I think it would be an excelent oppurtunity for us to cooperate. ;) What do you think? > The IBM is in practice ordered. Clock speed is a the snag of G4 processors. I have thought it depeneded a lot on the processor too, but really it does not. The key indentigrent is the mother board. Really, that's because the memory, harddrive and PCI controlers are all built into the mobo and the faster those are, the faster the CPU gets to do it's stuff. I have here a Pentium II MMX 300 MHz and a Pentium 100 MHz and they are just as fast, which is purely because the Pentium 100 MHz has a supperior mobo. You should also be looking for the fastest harddrives on the market, it won't cost you much, but it's really worth it, mostly because the fastest harddrives are completely noizeless and also key to a fast startup. Also, on the choice of the OS, unless you have a specific reason, I strongly recomend you take Windows 98 SE, or Windows 2000 with the latest service pack. Windows NT is the predecesor of 2000, ME is a continuing of 98 and known to be VERY buggy while XP is really a fat waste of resources (it will degrade your computer's preformance so greately you might not even notice a diffirence regardless of the much supperior hardware). On stability, you likely now the key item is the memory. DDR ECC SDRAM would be ideal, but of course the prices vary lots here, you might want to be more economic than that. Also, on preformance, buying too much RAM is an absolute must, trust me (in my view 512 MB of RAM is the overkill that I really should have on my computer for good preformance, you might be thinking of something in the range of 1 GB RAM). Burner drives, unless you're onto keeping your current ones, I recomend TEAC's drives. The other equipment in my view you cannot possibly buy nowadays anything that would be bad enough to degrade preformance. > There is Linux and some other OS's for Macintosh.
