I agree. I don't think any heightened senses necessarily have anything to do with whether or not one is a therian. I happen to have very good hearing and an excellent sense of smell. However, I don't think they're necessarily a result of my therianthropy. Could be... but I kind of doubt it. Like has already been mentioned, being capable of hearing a muted TV through the "electrical sounds" is pretty common (especially depending upon the TV, as some give off more of this noise than others). Also, being able to hear dog whistles is rather common as well. It is very hard to find any quality dog whistles that are completely above human hearing range. Most trainers who use them prefer a loud-blasting whistle that they can hear anyway... just so they can more easily determine the pitch and other little details to better direct their dog.
Well I personally have not abused any drugs in the past FYI. :x I'm not claiming my sense of smell is any better than that of others (could be tho) and nor would I be claiming the same for my hearing, but how the information from the senses is percieved, that's the big diffirence. I know the diffirence because I could observe the switch durring my early attribute shifts, I know what it was like before and I know how it is now. It's like a part of my brain that remained dissfunctional previously, responsible for central coordination of information from all these senses became active... It's shows to me in the way I percieve the sounds and the smells. It's like now, I can move an immaginary point in my visual field, and use my ears and I can feel the muscles around them trying to 'aim' the ears to focus to it... I can also sense direction of scents very accurately, for example walking down the street I will pick up the scent from a nearby dog (up to 10 m away) and I will instinctively move my head to face them (it's also sort of inapropriate I think for me to look at other people's dogs, so I look away playing innocent too, since I can't help aiming my head at them instinctively in the first place). At this I can't actually indentify the smell of the dog (well except gender, with males there is a slight annoyance and with females it smells sort of sweet), they don't stink to me, nor do I sense them with any other of the senses I know of, I just become aware of them somehow. It's not something obvious enough for be to boast around with. So I stick to my oppinion that these abbilities are mostly useless. :)
