[14:31:21] DNS777: I was thinking sort of like ektoplazm but for hip hop. [14:34:38] scrdcow: just jamendo i know [14:34:43] http://media.rbose.org:6543/u/dns/m/richard_stallman_a_free_digital_society/ [14:34:44] URL Title: Richard Stallman - A Free Digital Society (2012) GNU MediaGoblin [18:49:35] DNS777: oh, yeah maybe you can follow tags on jamendo. but does jamendo do any type of collecting or they just let people release stuff on their site? [18:50:37] the problems can be 1) to much releases so you want quality-sorting or 2) it's released on various sites and noone collect it [18:55:36] scrdcow: here is another source http://freemusicarchive.org/genre/Hip-Hop/ [18:55:37] URL Title: Free Music Archive: Hip-Hop [18:57:32] possible that libre.fm has a channel with hip-hop too, but i get atm database error [18:58:40] no flac on jamendo. [18:59:04] GNUkas: they were hacked and passwords reset, you know about that? [18:59:38] GNUkas: what I like about ektoplazm and would be nice to have for other genres is... [19:00:42] GNUkas: someone knowledgeable about the genres sorting out real crap, someone that actually find and collects releases since not all is released dirctly on ektoplazm, people vote on how good it is + comments, and everything is in flac (with a few exceptions). [19:01:07] all are* [19:02:39] and you can follow by feed (for all the music, but not only specific genres sadly). [19:03:23] i prefer do my own filtering :) majority of people are ignorant about one subject or another so stars or other alike systems don't work well really, and i don't like as well any form of authority to choose music for me [19:03:46] ofcourse your free to search by yourself [19:03:59] but I prefer the work alot of djs and talented and knoweldgeable people do [19:04:06] they find the gold, if you like their style. [19:04:49] and in the case of ektoplazm, I think most of the released stuff get added, since the sheer amount aren't that big anyways. [19:05:37] I rather find the good tracks I like by people with the same taste I have than spending tons of time going through all music myself. [19:06:11] scrdcow: i had no idea about any hack on libre.fn, missed that, can you link me to more info? [19:06:14] if it's no specific genre/sub-genre/style that is very specific and I can dive and do some research on my own. [19:07:32] GNUkas: didn't seem to have the mail any longer. my webmail-service is total crap. now they delete mails automatically from my wastebin. [19:07:38] also from the spam-filter. [19:08:55] regarding music, i sometimes just listen to libre.fm and when i hear some interesting stuff i look for more music from that artist [19:10:40] ok, if you can do very specific filtering it's ok. [19:11:14] for ex if you you last.fm as filtering mechanism you get good results but it's because it stems from people listening and tagging, so it's not automated. [19:11:34] you have to have that or you have to listen through everything. [19:11:47] which takes to much time [19:12:00] so either a collective does it or a person with a taste I admire does it. [19:13:32] and I have to disagree with you. if it comes to a specific genre, there will be people really into that genre, and they will know what they like. I think people would vote according to their true feelings about a work. you just have to have a base of enough *-heads and not to many random persons not really into the genre/genres. [19:14:01] then maybe the results can get skewed. [19:14:57] genres is limiting yourself, just accept that all music is just unfourie transformed alterations of signals [19:42:46] ofcourse but you miss the point. [19:43:34] genres help to find the stuff you like, because music is divided inte genres/sub-genres because they sound alike. but I rather search and find by individual tracks or artists/groups, that's why last.fm is so good. the collective listen habits and tagging habits is a great filter. if I had to filter all that myself it would take years to find stuff, I would maybe had to go by labels and their catalogs (which I do also if it's a label I like). [19:45:54] but in the end it comes down to having relyable sources of taste. either a dj/blog/etc, a collective, a label, a party osv.. [19:48:15] and I would like to have a source for that for free music for some music styles which I don't have today. and if it's a mix of all labels around, filtered/sorted either by a dj/someone with knowledge etc, or a collective or both at the same time and multiple djs/etc (like last.fm works) then it would be the best. [19:48:59] if everyone used jamendo and it had flac. it would be nice. [19:50:48] FMA had curators. nice.
