[02:09:48] Hi Grits [02:09:59] Problems with Registering? [02:10:02] no [02:10:07] just something that occurred to me [02:10:36] here's the basic idea, set up a web site that appears to use captcha challenges, but in fact is exploiting users to solve the challenges for other purposes [02:11:09] say you want to automate email account creation on a given web site, you could for example set up a porn site that uses captcha challenges to view the porn [02:11:38] but instead of generating the captcha challenge it pulls it from another web site as it iterates the account generation routine [02:11:56] presents it to the user, the user solves it, then the program takes over [02:12:25] I think some of the video hosting places may be involved in something like that [02:12:56] Video hosting is expensive so you have to verify I'm human? Really? Is an automated program going to download it more times than I would watching it directly? [02:13:06] There has to be some other reason they're implementing those challenges. [02:13:51] maybe [02:13:56] and users with fatter pipes compensate by being connected to the server less [02:14:16] just about anyone these days has the bandwidth to reasonably stream a full movie [02:14:57] you can't generally search those hosts anyway, and the videos are routinely given misleading names because they're pirated. [02:15:37] and what are the odds active video pirates are going to want to automate something that as of a few years ago didn't require a captcha challenge but now does [02:15:50] such as spamming [02:16:00] spamming what [02:16:18] their web site, so they can sucker in more captcha solvers [02:16:34] so they can spam more, to sucker in more solvers [02:16:36] and so on [02:16:59] and all of it driving ad revenue [02:17:10] a trivial solution to the captcha "challenge" [02:17:22] when you think about it in those terms it's anything but a challenge to defeat it [02:18:11] and just look at all those clowns wasting their time with image and character recognition software, audio recognition software, it's all a fucking waste of time, an escalating arms race that will never end [02:18:29] meanwhile the ruthless porn lords exploit the porn leeches in more ways than one [02:18:50] their own little farms of captcha solvers [02:19:00] and the porn is Hollywood blockbusters [02:19:14] lol [03:01:08] nice Grits, interesting perspective [03:03:36] out captcha works a bit different atm, pulling an image to other site would be not enough, because actually ask "please enter something different than you see on image" :) [03:03:45] our* captcha [03:05:24] but it's a race as you said [03:08:38] Hey lukas do you have time? [03:09:11] hi Viper :) Yes, i think so. What you have in mind? [03:09:54] Can you join Gobby and Mumble? [03:10:03] play a bit with python :D [03:10:14] sure! :D [03:10:23] add timer and so [03:20:24] Attempting to give a damn: ███████████████████] 99% Complete... [03:20:29] ERROR!: Unable to give a damn. sorry! [03:46:08] really, RBOSE uses a reverse captcha sting operation? [03:46:16] clearly you're all trolls [03:55:12] Grits, we ask users on the registration to enter what they see "without the last char" :) [03:57:57] *** Quits: |UFO| (UFO@Unidentified.Flying.Object) (Quit: Ctrl-C at console.)
