[08:30:49] Never mind! Solved it. [10:12:54] morning [10:39:55] *** Joins: Kebap23 (LeckerKebap@RBOSE-goo3c7.unitymediagroup.de) [10:42:49] *** Quits: Kebap (LeckerKebap@RBOSE-goo3c7.unitymediagroup.de) (Ping timeout: 241 seconds) [11:34:54] kman: :) [11:35:00] good way to start a sunday :D [11:35:21] kman: did you get the arch linux install to work btw? [11:35:56] i was thinking about konverting my main server (kvm host) and documenting every step [12:08:51] Well i wanted to try the KVM setup in debian. [12:09:06] And i didnt get arch to work. [12:12:39] ok :) [12:13:59] thing that made me want to switch to arch is that debian stable runs an old kernel with no virtio-interface for harddrives. If that is installed its possible to make a folder on the host appear as a folder on the guest without involving samba or something else [12:14:09] and that makes io go really really faster :D [12:14:43] the kernel and kvm debian uses is about 2 years old i think :/ [12:15:36] qemu --version [12:15:38] QEMU PC emulator version 0.12.5 (Debian 0.12.5+dfsg-3squeeze1), Copyright (c) 2003-2008 Fabrice Bellard [12:17:18] Woha okay [12:17:21] July 23, 2010 [12:17:23] QEMU version 0.12.5 is out (ChangeLog). [12:17:29] Well yeah that sound like a nice shortcut. [12:17:30] :/ [12:17:55] yeah. I love debian for the fact that things really work and nothing changes to often [12:18:07] but still, a two year old vm-emulation is not ok :D [12:20:31] Why change it if it aint broken? Any functionalities that are missing? [12:20:44] the one i mentioned above [12:20:46] for example [12:21:14] to be able to share folders easily with gest/host is a feature i wish very much [12:21:18] *guest [12:22:13] July 23, 2010 [12:22:21] http://wiki.qemu.org/Documentation/9psetup [12:22:22] URL Title: Documentation/9psetup - QEMU [12:22:28] this is the feature [12:23:00] Mhm [12:36:17] https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KVM#Poor_Man.27s_Networking [12:36:18] URL Title: KVM - ArchWiki [12:36:19] lol [12:36:35] "poor mans networking", is apparently to bridge cards :D [12:36:54] and use ssh tunnel [12:42:08] kman: if you have dynamic dns and the server actually has the correct ip, i can recommend to use hooks to the dhclient [12:42:35] there is no need to trigger an url every 5 minutes, because the dhcpclient knows when it gets a new ip [12:42:44] Cool [12:42:45] and its enough to run the script whenever that happens [12:42:58] I need to get my install of arch working first.. [12:43:15] i run in with debian right now [12:43:18] Shit just takes so much time when your new to it, and i dont have that time. [12:43:19] works great [12:43:23] yeah [12:44:48] i'm starting to get used to arch now. I like it very much [12:45:11] what i like about it is mostly the simple layout of the filesystem, configuration files etc [12:45:24] and its very easy to run custom stuff at boot etc [12:46:02] and package installs is extremely fast [12:46:48] kman: i will probably convert my server this week so maybe i can write a guide how i set things up [12:47:22] setup is with two network cards here. One with external ip and one with an internal ip [12:47:48] and kvm-guests appear as ordinary boxes to the internal network [13:08:19] *** Quits: kman (kman@RBOSE-1vjua3.student.uu.se) (Connection closed) [13:55:12] *** Joins: kman (kman@RBOSE-1vjua3.student.uu.se) [14:13:36] *** Quits: Viper (Viper@NetAdmin.RBOSE) (Connection closed) [17:07:58] *** Joins: Evil (Viper@Evil.Troll) [17:29:40] *** Quits: Evil (Viper@Evil.Troll) (Connection closed) [17:37:48] *** Joins: Evil (Viper@Evil.Troll)
